At the beginning of a new tenancy, we will normally ask for a security deposit. This is to protect us from unpaid rent and damage to the property.
There are laws regarding the amount we can take and what we ae allowed to do with the money.
Deposits have to be paid into a Government approved scheme, where they are held for the duration of the tenancy. We use the Deposit Protection Service (DPS) and your deposit is protected in their Custodial Scheme.
You can visit the DPS website here.
Tenants looking for documents relating to Deposit Protection should refer to our Documents for Tenants page
If you are renting with us through a scheme backed by Reading Borough Council, your deposit will be protected differently, as per your arrangement with the council - and you should contact them directly if you require any further information.
